In a world of AI and deepfake images, many celebrities have been fighting for their personality rights in court. And in recent updates, Bollywood star Suniel Shetty has moved the Bombay High Court, asking for the protection of his personality rights. He also claimed that many websites were using his photographs to promote their business without any authorisation. He also sought the court or order to all such websites to immediately remove his photographs and restrain them from using the same in future.
What Suniel Shetty Said
On Friday, a bench led by Justice Arif Doctor heard Suniel’s lawyer, Birendra Saraf, and reserved its verdict on the petition. The counsel highlighted that fake images of Suniel and his granddaughter, Evaraah, were circulating on certain websites. The petition stated that the actor’s photos were being used for commercial purposes without permission. Saraf stated that both a real estate website and a gambling site had displayed the actor’s photo, despite him having no connection with them. In the plea, the actor asserted his rights over his image and personality, claiming that unauthorised use was harming his reputation.
Evaraah is the daughter of Suniel Shetty’s daughter, Athiya Shetty, and her husband, cricketer KL Rahul.
