Famous television actor Sudhanshu Pandey is currently making waves with his appearance in the Karan Johar hosted show, The Traitors. But the actor rose to fame with his famous role as Vanraj Shah in the popular show Anupamaa alongside Rupali Ganguly. He quit the show last year. And in a recent chat, revealed that he slipped into a ‘dark phase’ while playing Vanraj. The role took such a toll on him that he had to take pain medication for his physical aches.
What Sudhanshu Pandey Said
When asked about the difficulties actors encounter in returning to normalcy after playing dramatic roles, Sudhanshu told Bollywood Bubble that it sometimes take days to fully recuperate, drawing parallels with Hollywood performers such as Dustin Hoffman, who have required rehabilitation following certain roles. Sudhanshu Pandey emphasised the need of acknowledging one’s own limitations when deeply engaging with a character.

He said, “It’s happened to me even in a show like Anupamaa. I’ve touched on dark spaces, and it’s hit me very hard. It’s taken a toll on me, too.” Sudhanshu revealed that he gives his 100% to a role as an actor. Reflecting on his time with Anupamaa, Sudhanshu expressed his thanks for the show’s impact on everyone involved. While he valued the experience, he acknowledged the exhaustion of portraying the same character for four years. He stated a wish to go on to shorter-term assignments, allowing him to explore different personas across many platforms over the next few years.
