Fans of the franchise have been speculating for Squid Game to get an American spin-off for a while now. At the end of Squid Game season 3, viewers saw Cate Blanchett play a mysterious character; however, reports reveal that the actress will not be part of the spin-off. Reports also suggest that the Squid Game: America remake will be completely disconnected from the original show, featuring all new characters and plot line.
The series will be directed by David Fincher, an acclaimed director who has directed award-winning films like Gone Girl and Fight Club. The script will be developed by Dennis Kelly and Hwang Dong Hyuk, the director of the Squid Game series, and Kim Ji Yeon, CEO of FirstMan Studio, will join as producers.
The release date for Squid Game: America has not been decided yet. However, Collider predicts that it will be released sometime in 2028 around Christmas, similar to the time when the first two seasons of Squid Game were revealed.
