The nominees for the 77th Emmy Awards were announced yesterday and instantly caused widespread discussion. While many deserving candidates were nominated, one specific show was absent from all the nominations. The presence of both Squid Game seasons 2 and 3 was absent from the prestigious award show. Squid Game season 1 won 6 Emmys, including the Outstanding Drama Series in 2022. Thus, fans of the show are incredibly disappointed. Read on to know more.
Squid Game Gets Snubbed From The Emmys
Shows like Severance, The Penguin and The White Lotus dominated the nomination list for this year’s Emmys. However, many fan favourites, were as Squid Game, House of Dragon and The Handmaidens’ Tale, were snubbed. This decline for Squid Game is particularly bad because its previous season had received 14 nominations, while this year, none.
Angry fans of the show accused the Emmys and the Television Academy of bias. Many pointed out that despite Squid Game’s popularity and art direction, the show still failed to be nominated for major behind-the-scenes categories like direction and cinematography. Others also accused the award show of being racist, as all the shows that are nominated this year are in the English language.
This controversy is also a reminder of director Hwang Dong Hyuck’s speech from last time, where he talked about how he hoped this is not the final time that a non-English series wins the award.

However, others argue that the two new seasons of Squid Game that were released this year were simply not up to the mark. The writing for the show felt rushed and could not be compared to the excellence that was Squid Game season 1.
