On December 25, South Korean girl group LE SSERAFIM delivered a mindblowing performance at the annual end-of-the-year music festival Gayo Daejeon. While fans praised the group for giving queer people a platform to represent themselves, people were angry when they discovered that broadcast channel SBS had erased one of the drag queens from the thumbnail of the performance video uploaded on YouTube. SBS Under Fire For Editing Drag Queen Out From Thumbnail Of LE SSERAFIM’s Gayo Daejeon Performance Video
LE SSERAFIM performed a special version of their hit song ‘Spaghetti’ at the Gayo Daejeon music festival on 25th December at the Incheon’s Inspore Arena. The performance included a voguing flair and featured Korean drag queens NANA Youngrong Kim, Ring Ring, and KYAM, too.
Netizens praised the group for the inclusion of drag in their performance as a nod to queer culture. However, people were enraged since they found out that SBS, the broadcast channel for the music event, had edited out a drag queen from the thumbnail of LE SSERAFIM’s performance video uploaded on YouTube. The performance snapshot originally included member Eunchae making a heart gesture with a drag queen, but the channel edited out the queen’s face, and only her hand and hair were visible in the thumbnail.

This move instantly angered netizens, who accused SBS of being anti queer. Many fans voiced their outrage by saying that the channel could have used a different picture of the group’s performance instead of erasing the drag queen. Netizens also noticed that this is not the first time SBS has tried to erase queer elements from a group’s performance on their channel. The lyrics of XLOV’s song ‘Rizz’ were also censored.
