Singer and K-pop group WINNER’s Song Min Ho has been officially indicted on charges of negligent service, after an investigation into his alleged questionable act while serving his mandatory alternative military service. An investigator revealed that even though the idol put a seal to prove his attendance for duties, he did not stay to do the actual work. Read on to know more.
WINNER’s Song Min Ho Gets Indicted Over Alleged Negligent Public Service
On December 31, Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office, in charge of Chief Prosecutor Won Shin Hye, announced that Song Min Ho and a supervising official had both been indicted without detention for violations of the Military Service Act. The charges are connected with Song’s period of service as a public service worker at a community convenience facility in Mapo District, Seoul, from 2023 to 2024.
The prosecution says Song Min Ho repeatedly failed to report to work and left his workplace without permission. “Even though he signed the attendance log by putting a seal on it as if he’d been working, in many cases, he didn’t stay at the working place for which he was responsible during working hours,” an investigator says. That is a violation of military service law on alternative service personnel, prosecutors argue.
In addition to WINNER’s Song Min Ho, a public official overseeing his service has also been charged.
The allegations are based on the supervisor’s failure to exercise their duty of proper control and supervision of Song Min Ho’s affairs concerning his regular attendance and conduct. The supervisor is accused of neglecting the matter through corrective or disciplinary measures despite being aware of irregularities.
About The Investigation
As stated by the authorities, the charge was concluded after an enormous amount of evidence was collected. This evidence ranges from mobile phone forensic analysis, GPS, and attendance records that show disparities in WINNER Song Min Ho’s attendance records and actual attendance at work. Further investigations were conducted after analysing the initial set of results drawn from data provided by the police, through which further unjustified absence was identified.
This is especially true for this particular incident, which has garnered widespread attention, especially considering the fact that the culprit, Song Min Ho, is a popular entertainment artist and also belongs to the highly popular K-pop group WINNER. It is also well-known that the South Koreans tend to be strict about their military services, hence making this particular charge somewhat feared by the citizens.
