For years, the internet has buzzed with claims alleging that former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar once made a controversial statement suggesting that he would kidnap Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre if she refused his marriage proposal. Now, Sonali has addressed these viral rumours, expressing scepticism about their authenticity. The actress, currently engaged in promoting the second season of her show The Broken News, engaged in a candid conversation on a podcast.

When the topic of Shoaib’s alleged remark was brought up, revealing that the cricketer had previously confessed to harbouring a significant crush on Sonali.  Sonali’s reaction to the revelation was one of surprise. She exclaimed, “Did he really say that?”  She further added she doesn’t know how true this is though and how fake news existed even then. When more details about the viral claim that Shoaib had purportedly expressed a desire to ‘kidnap’ her, were revealed Sonali responded, “I don’t know if he really said it…” Despite the uncertainty surrounding the authenticity of Shoaib’s alleged statements, Sonali expressed gratitude upon learning of his admiration for her work.

Shoaib Akhtar On The Viral Kidnap Claims

The viral claim has persisted for years, alleging that Shoaib Akhtar professed his affection for Sonali Bendre and expressed a desire to marry her, even going as far as joking about kidnapping her if she declined his proposal. In 2019, Shoaib Akhtar took to social media to address the circulating rumors surrounding his alleged remarks about Sonali Bendre. Through a video posted on his YouTube page, the former Pakistani cricketer vehemently denied any involvement in the purported statements attributed to him regarding Sonali.

He clarified that he never made any such statements and emphasized that he had never even met Sonali Bendre. Shoaib further expressed his admiration for Sonali’s courage during her battle with cancer, stating that he became a fan of hers as a person because of her resilience. This clarification from Shoaib Akhtar aimed to put an end to the speculation surrounding the alleged comments, reaffirming his respect for Sonali Bendre and her journey.
