Social media trends can go viral within minutes, and recently, a digital creator named Sofik SK from West Bengal became the talking point of a huge controversy. For the last couple of days, rumours regarding a 15-minute-long private video reportedly featuring Sofik and a woman said to be his girlfriend have been circulating. Sofik SK is a popular social media influencer. He is one of the most popular faces of Palli Gram TV, a Bengali digital platform that broadcasts rural-style entertainment programs. He rose to fame by doing comic skits, folk-theatre videos, and short dramas. One of his most popular videos, ‘Sofiker Chalaki’, helped him garner a huge audience base. He has over 300k followers on Instagram.

No confirmation has been made regarding Sofik SK’s video, despite the online buzz. So it is unclear whether this footage exists or whether it was created with AI tools. Still, discussions about it brought Sofik’s name into widespread attention.
The controversy escalated when another video that emerged on Instagram, shared by an account called sofik1_sonali. In it, a man looking much like Sofik kisses a woman, and the caption says, “My Girlfriend.” The number of views quickly went over 300,000. Of course, that has fueled further speculation, but viewers remain divided as to whether the video is real or maybe AI-generated.
Yet another reel went viral, which showed Sofik dancing with a woman to the tune of a popular song. A section of users connected this innocuous clip to the MMS rumour and created memes. That lady in the clip is supposedly one Sonali M, although it is not authenticated.
