Singham Again Faces Major Censorship As CBFC Removes Ramayana Scenes Citing Sensitivity: Reports

The much-anticipated Singham Again, starring Ajay Devgn, is all set for a major box office showdown this Diwali as it goes head-to-head with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, featuring Kartik Aaryan. While excitement builds for the film’s release, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has stepped in with a few changes before its final release. The Rohit Shetty directorial, part of his popular cop universe, has been awarded a U/A certificate, but not without a few significant edits.

Singham Again Gets Cut By CBFC

Reports have surfaced that the CBFC has directed the filmmakers to cut 7.12 minutes of footage in total. These cuts, though substantial, are scattered throughout various parts of the movie. Among the key modifications are scenes that involve parallels with mythological figures like Lord Rama, Sita, and Hanuman. For instance, scenes, where characters like Singham, Avni, and Simmba are depicted in visual alignment with these deities, were asked to be modified. Additionally, a scene showing Singham paying homage to Lord Rama was also adjusted for a more suitable portrayal.

Other notable cuts include the removal of a visual depicting Raavan manhandling Sita, a sensitive moment that the CBFC deemed inappropriate for the final cut. A sequence involving Hanuman and a dialogue with Simmba, which was deemed overly flirtatious, was also eliminated. Moreover, certain dialogue and visuals were removed as they were considered to have potential diplomatic ramifications with neighbouring countries, particularly given that part of the movie is set in Sri Lanka.

More Details

Additionally, the CBFC has instructed the filmmakers to include a disclaimer at the beginning of the film, clarifying that while the movie draws inspiration from the Ramayana, it is purely fictional and not intended to portray revered deities or offend cultural sensibilities.

With these revisions, Singham Again is set to run for 2 hours and 24 minutes. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, and Tiger Shroff, marking the fifth installment in Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe.
