In a tragic turn of events, legendary singer Asha Bhosle has passed away at the age of 92 after being admitted to the ICU of Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday, April 11. The singer was not well since the past months and was brought to the hospital in a critical state. She was later admitted to the ICU after which PM Narendra Modi prayed for her health. Veteran Singer Asha Bhosle Passes Away
This tragic news read confirmed by her son Anand and the last rites will be held tomorrow, i.e, April 13. On Saturday, her granddaughter Zania Bhosle also took to her X (Previously Twitter) account and revealed that the legendary star was admitted due to exhaustion and a chest infection. She further asked for the privacy of their family and that they will keep everyone updated on the same.
One of the most successful, popular, and prolific singers of Indian cinema, Asha Bhosle’s stature in Hindi film music was rivalled only by her elder sister, the late Lata Mangeshkar. Born in 1933 into the musical Mangeshkar family, Asha began singing professionally at the age of 9. She recorded her first film song in 1943 and by the 50s, had carved a niche for herself in Bollywood. Over the next three decades, she was among the most sought-after performers by most composers.

Asha married 31-year-old Ganpatrao Bhosle after eloping with him at the age of 16, defying her family’s wishes. Her personal secretary was Ganpatrao. But when Asha’s in-laws allegedly harassed her, she ended the marriage. After having three children together, they divorced in 1960. After a protracted courtship, she wed composer Rahul Dev Barman, who was six years her junior, in 1980. The Burman family, especially RD’s mother, opposed this marriage. Sachin Dev Burman, a renowned composer, was Rahul’s father. In 1994, he passed away.
