Abhijeet Sawant Opens Up About Payment Structure For Singers, Says Not Enough To Sustain A Livelihood

Arijit Singh announcing his retirement sparked a lot of conversations around some disparity in the music industry and the treatment of the artists. Recently, singer Abhijeet Sawant also addressed the question around payment structure for the singers and how problematic it is. He further opened up about the challenges that the singers face during the payments. Read on.

Abhijeet Sawant On Payments To Singers

During a conversation on Pentarise Studios’ YouTube channel, Abhijeet Sawant was asked about the payment structure in the film industry. He said that people do not want singers to be bigger than the films, and therefore they are only given a certain amount of fee. He also revealed that musicians are not given royalties. Abhijeet Sawant gave the example of Biddu who worked on Lafzon Mein also did a few projects in the West and got enough royalty from two songs that he could live his entire life on that. The singer directly said that they did not make enough to even sustain their livelihoods.

Abhijeet Sawant also shed on light on how singers don’t want to leave the opportunity of working with a certain producer, because if they don’t someone else will. As per the him, singers know that if a big actor lip-syncs on their song they can use it for a long time to promote themselves, and therefore they accept whatever money they are offered. He further added that the singers are exploited a lot.

Abhijeet Sawant has sung songs like ‘Yaaron Chalo’, ‘Tham Ja’, and ‘Meri Aankhein’ among others. The singer is also the winner of Indian Idol one, after which he got more recognition.
