SHINee’s Taemin Terminates Exclusive Contract With BPM Entertainment Amid Payment Delays

SHINee’s Taemin has moved to conclude his exclusive contract with Big Planet Made (BPM) Entertainment. After a series of events that left the ‘Guilty’ singer in the lurch, he reached out to the company to terminate his agreement before the date stipulated in the contract. Reportedly, his payments were delayed. Several additional issues resulted in Taemin ultimately taking this step. Read all about the contract termination below.

SHINee’s Taemin Ends Exclusive Contract With BPM Entertainment

According to The Fact, BPM confirmed the termination of the contract but did not elaborate on the reason why it happened so abruptly. However, sources told news outlets that Taemin’s choice left no room for debate. Though the contract concluded without much dispute, it ended far sooner than stipulated. In fact, the SHINee member left the company after a mere year and 10 months.

As mentioned above, Big Planet Made Entertainment stalled Taemin’s compensation for several months. Additionally, the company’s CEO also signed contracts with an external company without consulting the ‘Advice’ vocalist. BPM Entertainment is headed by Cha Ga Won, who is also the head of One Hundred Label, its parent company.

When Taemin ended his agreement with SM Entertainment in March 2024, he signed with Big Planet. After 16 years at SM, the singer’s move came with big expectations. While the partnership yielded tours around the world, the salary was unpaid. This, combined with the contractual agreement without his consent, provided Taemin grounds to terminate the contract. In a heartfelt gesture, it was revealed that Taemin paid his staff out of his own pocket.

BPM Entertainment’s Parent Company, CEO Cha Ga Won In Chaos

While Taemin’s contract has ended, the K-pop idols still under One Hundred Label, BPM’s parent company, are suffering. This includes EXO’s Chen, Xiumin, and Baekhyun, Lee Seung Gi, THE BOYZ, and more. Reportedly, the company hasn’t paid employees and idols in a long time, making the amount in the tens of billions of won. They also owe KRW 10 billion won (USD 6.9 million dollars) to external companies.
