With her captivating performances in notable movies and shows like Badhaai Do, Doctor G, and The Trial, Sheeba Chadha recently opened up about her personal experiences with potential pay discrimination in the industry. In a heartfelt conversation, she delved into the pressing question of whether she had ever encountered discrepancies in compensation compared to her male counterparts while working on various film and television projects. Reflecting on the past, she expressed that in those days, there was little awareness about the existence of pay parity. She explained that it wasn’t customary to inquire about the salary of male actors when signing a contract for a project because you just cannot ask such low-life questions and it also seemed quite embarrassing.

But she further mentioned that now that she looks back at it realises maybe she should have asked about the money because the males were getting paid more, she said, “Par baad mein malum parta hai ki aadmiyon ko jyada paisa mil rha hai, and I am literally waiting for the evidence on the males getting paid more because I don’t want to randomly go and claim such things, but I would really like to know.” She also said, “If me and a male actor is coming from the same body of work and he’s getting paid more just because he is a male, then that is bloody pathetic and I cannot believe that such Stone Age behaviour is still existing and is disgusting.”
