Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is quite an impactful film. It sheds light on the persistent issue of casteism in our country, and the performances leave a strong impression on you for a long time. What Did Shazia Iqbal Say?

Director Shazia Iqbal spoke at length about how the Bollywood industry still refrains from supporting films that talk about socially relevant topics and voice against the evils that are still rooted in society. In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, Shazia Iqbal spoke about how many people wanted to explore a genre like horror-comedy after a film like Stree made big numbers at the box office. She further questioned the same support for films that are critically acclaimed by critics and the audience both but are based on topics like caste, in a way that Dhadak 2 did.

Shazia Iqbal was also of the opinion that the decision makers had still not reached the point where they felt the need to make socially relevant films even after a similar one does good at the box-office. However, the director hoped that this change would happen for the sake of storytellers and filmmakers someday.

For the unversed, Shazia Iqbal made her debut with the Dhadak 2 which is remake of the 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. However, as a director, her first project was a short film Bebaak, and she won many accolades for this short film, at International film festivals.
