The political climate seems to be facing a bit of turbulence, as Instagram influencer–Sharmistha Panoli gets arrested by Kolkata Police in Gurugram. The incident took place after an FIR was lodged against Panoli, a law student whose remarks on Operation Sindoor, shook the internet. In the video, Panoli called out Indian celebrities for being tight-lipped about Operation Sindoor and in return received a lot of flack and backlash from netizens. After removing this, Panoli also issued an apology on May 15.
What Did Kangana Ranaut Say?
Even after that, the law student got arrested by Kolkata Police for her remarks on the Indian army v/s Pakistan war. Speaking about the same, now actors and politicians–Kangana Ranaut and Pawan Kalyan have come out in support of her. In her latest media byte, BJP MP/actress Kangana Ranaut condemned Panoli’s arrest and urged the West Bengal government to not turn into North Korea. She also stated that something like this should not happen to any daughter. Ranaut also stated that Panoli had already deleted the post and apologised publicly, hence the arrest makes no sense. In her statement, she urged people to not end her career or question her character.

Pawan Kalyan’s Views On Arrest
Likewise, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor–Pawan Kalyan also spoke in favour of the law student and condemned the arrest. He also said–”secularism must be a two-way street.” In a post shared on X, he revealed–”But what about the deep, searing pain inflicted upon millions when elected leaders, MPs of TMC, mock Sanatana Dharma? Where is the outrage when our faith is called ‘Gandha Dharm’? Where is their apology? Where is their swift arrest?” He also slammed the government and urged them to act justly for all.
During Operation Sindoor, Sharmistha, a law student, spoke out, her words regrettable and hurtful to some. She owned her mistake, deleted the video and apologized. The WB Police swiftly acted, taking action against Sharmistha.

For the unversed, Sharmistha Panoli was arrested and then taken to Kolkata court, followed by which she was sent to a 14-day judicial custody.
