Popular television actor Shama Sikander who is known for her work in shows like Baalveer and Yeh Meri Life Hai revealed that she once tried committing suicide after quitting the industry. In a recent interview, the television actor opened up about how she was going through depression and also revealed that her parents supported her during these difficult times. The actor showed an act of bravery by opening up about her battles with depression.

Shama Sikander Opens Up About Her Depression

In a conversation with Pinkvilla, the actor opened up about her struggles after leaving the acting industry. While people were sure that Shama Sikander would garner immense fame from the show Yeh Meri Life Hai where she played the character of Pooja Mehra, the actor disappeared from the acting scene for around six years. She recently opened up about her sudden disappearance from acting.

Sikander admitted that she left because she was feeling burnt out. This was because she had been working for a long time which in turn took a toll on her mental health. She said that she started to feel uneasy and decided to stay indoors. She stopped going out to socialise and admitted going through depression she even tried attempting suicide but was saved by her parents.

The Baalveer actor said that depression isn’t caused by one reason but rather is an amalgamation of various thoughts and reasons. She added that there wasn’t much awareness about this in the early 2000s, so her parents couldn’t gauge why she wanted to stay at home. She admitted that the industry requires one to be what they perceive of them because of which one slips in the darkness.  She felt she was under immense pressure to be perfect in every role in her life.

Talking about her comeback, she said that she wants to take it slow and enjoy her work. She admitted that she preferred OTT now and would not choose to work on Sundays.
