Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Diljit Dosanjh starrer Udta Punjab had a massive success and is still considered a cult classic. While the film faced many problems with the Censor board, it emerged as a success at the box office and in the audience’s hearts. Amid recent reports, popular producer Ekta Kapoor is looking to make a sequel of the film and is keen on bringing Shahid Kapoor back for the lead role.
Udta Punjab 2 In Making?
Peeping Moon reports that Ekta Kapoor is working on Udta Punjab 2, and that she has enlisted Aakash Kaushik to script and helm the film. According to an industry insider who spoke to the portal, Udta Punjab is presently in the writing stage, with production expected to start the following year. Ekta is eager to have Shahid Kapoor return, but the team intends to contact actors after the script is complete. According to the source, she and he have had some initial conversations, but official talks have not yet taken place.
Due to other professional obligations, Abhishek Chaubey, the director of the 2016 origional film will not be directing the follow-up. According to reports, the sequel will follow a different plot and only reference the original movie through Punjab’s drug problem.

Shahid Kapoor played the drug-addicted rock artist Tommy in Udta Punjab. The actor once revealed in an earlier interview with Pinkvilla that he was confused when he was offered the part because he is a teetotaller in real life and has never used drugs. “Why did you offer me this role?” Shahid questioned Abhishek Chaubey.
