Did You Know Shah Rukh Khan Started Drinking Alcohol Due To Anxiety While Filming Devdas?

Devdas is a legendary story that several filmmakers have interpreted in their distinctive way. In 2002, Sanjay Leela Bhansali cast Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Madhuri Dixit to narrate the story through his lenses. Finally, the film was regarded as one of the three stars’ best works. However, Shah Rukh Khan remarked that he did not intend for his character to encourage the audience. He also admitted to turning to alcohol while filming the tragic love story.

Shah Rukh Khan Reveals Drinking After Devdas

Earlier this year, Shah Rukh Khan AKA King Khan attended a prestigious award show where he spoke about his career and some of his evergreen films which are still remembered after years. While discussing his film Devdas, Khan stated that with such a formal character, he didn’t want the audience to love him or hate him. “Nor did I want you to like him for being an alcoholic who runs away from every girl that he falls in love with. I just wanted him to appear indescribable,” Khan said.

The Jawan star said that because he was feeling so anxious while filming Devdas, he turned to alcohol. When asked if drinking helped him ace the character, the star admitted that it did help but post the film he started drinking alcohol which was a downside of that situation. He then humorously concluded by saying that he won the best actor award for the same film.

Chatting with the audience about the film, King Khan admitted to choosing the role as he believed his mother Lateef Fatima would have liked it. He added that another reason for doing Devdas was because Dilip Kumar, KL Saigal, and Uttam Kumar had aced the same role earlier. Shah Rukh Khan revealed that he did big films so that his parents could watch those from heaven.
