Many actresses from Bollywood’s golden age of cinema have seen the industry grow in the most interesting ways. One of them is actress Shabana Azmi who never leaves an occasion to speak her mind out. On completing five decades in the industry, the actress was invited for an interview by a news portal, where she spoke about the changing positioning of women in Bollywood. Speaking to MidDay, the actress mentioned how today is the best time to experiment in Bollywood.

As someone who made her debut in the year 1974, Shabana ji has seen the industry grow through thin and thick. Praising actresses Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, Azmi mentioned–”Today, look at the roles Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone are doing in mainstream films. I believe if change has to happen, it should reflect in mainstream cinema, or you are preaching to the converted.”

Talking about the present scenario, she also pointed out at the diverse range of scripts and also the importance of drastically growing number of female writers, who bring stories of women to the frontline. She also went on to add–”It will (change) when women-centric films start making money at the box office. Heroes need to be ready to play second fiddle like women did all these years.” Well, that is quite true.
