This has sparked conversation on idol safety and fan boundaries.
SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu is known to be fairly unrestricted with his fans. However, when some take his openness for granted, it becomes a serious problem. Recently, the 1997-born K-pop idol faced a situation at his concert with S.COUPS in Busan, South Korea. The duo, which forms the subunit CxM, is currently on its ‘Double Up Live Tour’ in Asia. Read about what happened to Mingyu, how he addressed the situation, and why fans were upset on social media.
SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu Calls Out Fans Taking Liberties During CxM’s Busan Concert
Some people think that just because one is a K-pop idol, they are entitled to every part of their life. This could lead to dangerous sasaeng (stalker) situations, which threaten the celebrity’s privacy and safety. During a segment of the Busan concert on February 14, the ‘Shake It Off’ singer walked through the centre of the concert hall, surrounded by fans on both sides with barricades.
Does the person who says mingyu is not uncomfortable really love him? Does one need a reminder from others to stop such impolite behavior? he didn’t lose his temper at you doesn’t mean the harassment was right😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

Most fans were respectful and stuck out their hands for high-fives. Few, however, saw the closeness as an opportunity to grope his chest and upper arms. While the SEVENTEEN member did not show any immediate reaction, he appeared distressed while climbing on the cart. Later, Mingyu addressed the uncomfortable situation, saying that attendees ought not to grab onto him as they did. S.COUPS echoed the sentiment, requesting fans to give high-fives instead.
Netizens Furious At Those Who Grabbed Mingyu’s Upper Body
Fans threw a fit on X (formerly known as Twitter) as videos of the incident appeared online. Almost everyone was disgusted by the blatant harassment that SEVENTEEN’S Mingyu endured recently. Some netizens insinuated that the idol enjoyed the “attention” he received. Excuse me, what?
heyyy so lets stop normalising this narrative that just bc he’s a man and OCCASIONALLY lets his fans touch him (keyword touch, not grope) that the behaviour fans displayed was okay

Touching someone without their consent on any part of their body is harassment. No matter their gender or fame, no one should be subjected to this kind of behaviour, or blamed for the same. We truly hope no celebrity has to go through this, especially when they share their life so freely otherwise. The fact that SEVENTEEN’s Mingyu had to talk about his distress is sad. Fans need to understand that idols are humans too, and to separate their image from the actual person.
