Sean Diddy Combs will stay behind bars while waiting to be sentenced after his prostitution-related conviction. On Monday, a federal judge denied the music industry mogul’s latest request for bail, another courtroom loss since he was arrested last September. Sean Diddy Combs, was convicted last month of two charges related to the facilitation of prostitution. He was, nonetheless, cleared of the more serious racketeering and s*x trafficking charges, which had the potential to bring a life sentence.

Although this conviction has the possibility of bringing a 10-year prison sentence, the actual duration is unclear because of complicated federal sentencing rules. Both prosecutors and defense lawyers have competing views as to how those regulations apply to Combs’ case. In the end, it will be Judge Arun Subramanian’s decision what the sentence will be. Although the guidelines serve as a guideline, the judge is not under any obligation to follow them and has wide discretion when determining Combs’ punishment at the October scheduled sentencing.
Federal prosecutors charged Combs with using his power and fame to stage chilling situations in which his business associates were coerced into engaging in drug-fueled sex with male escorts that he allegedly videotaped. The activities, which prosecutors called “freak-offs” or “hotel nights,” occurred over several days.

Combs’ lawyers have continually fought back, contending that the relationships were voluntary and that the government was unfairly singling him out for private conduct that, although unorthodox, was not criminal. His defence admitted that he had a history of violent conduct but argued it did not meet the legal definitions of abuse or coercion.
In a bid to obtain pre-sentencing release, Combs’ lawyers suggested a 50 million bond package, agreeing to keep him confined to his Miami home on electronic monitoring, private security supervision, and travel restrictions. The judge rejected the application after prosecutors contended that Combs was a threat, invoking his history of violent acts and his failure to admit to the gravity of his offences.
