What Happened?
Screenwriter Deedi Damodaran took to her Facebook handle to pen a note on the recent Kerala State Film Awards. The jury presented an award to Hirandas Murali, also known as Rapper Vedan, in the Best Lyricist category for the song ‘Kuthanthram’ from the film Manjummel Boys, which was critically acclaimed film in 2024. Damodaran slammed the jury for presenting this award to an artist who was allegedly named in a 2024 rape case. In a very poetic manner, Deedi Damodaran wrote that the song or melody, no matter how good could not cover or erase all the complaints. She also called it a “breach of trust” between the Government’s stand that r*pists would not be protected at any cost. Even Deedi started this noe with the line “Sweat stiched suit” which was also used by Vedan in his post after winning the award.
