Three elements make a thriller worth the watch- twists, characters and performances. After a long time, an engaging female-led thriller has hit the theatres. It is titled Savi and stars talented actors like Divya Khossla, Anil Kapoor and Harshvardhan Rane. The film is directed by Abhinay Deo. It is produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Bhushan Kumar and Krishnan Kumar under Vishesh Films and T-Series Films.Savi follows the plot of a housewife whose life goes upside down when her husband is arrested in a murder case but instead of going hopeless, she decides to break the prison and free her husband. Well, as fresh as the storyline sounds, many other aspects of this film were equally intriguing to watch. Here’s a detailed review of Divya Khossla starrer Savi!
Plot
Savi tells the story of the protagonist Savi (Divya Khossla) and her journey from being a simple housewife to becoming a fearless woman who takes life-threatening risks to rescue her husband (Harshvardhan Rane). The movie starts by introducing the audience to the small and loving family of Savi, her husband and their son. The family is settled in London. Just within 10 minutes into the film, Nakul Sachdev (Harshvardhan Rane), Savi’s husband is arrested by the police in a murder case. The allegations are proven in court and he is sentenced the life imprisonment. The plot becomes more engaging when Nakul is attacked by a group of convicts inside the jail. When Savi learns about the incident and that her husband’s life is in danger inside the jail, she takes a strong resolution of breaking into the prison and rescuing her husband. That’s when Anil Kapoor’s character Mr Paul comes into the scene. We won’t give out much but Mr Paul aids Savi in her risky mission. Is her plan successful, does she get her happily ever after with her family, and does the UK police catch her? Well, to get the answers, you need to watch the film!
Performances
Divya Khossla: This has to be Divya’s career-best performance. She has beautifully showcased the layers and nuances of her character, and the brilliant transformation of a simple housewife to becoming a dangerous woman who is even ready to kill someone who comes in her way. Yeah, you are up for some surprises with Divya Khossla’s character and her performance. She shines in moments when the story picks up speed. For eg, in chasing scenes or a gunfight. Divya Khossla is impressive in every frame.
Anil Kapoor: He is just fabulous throughout. The addition of his character adds a very fresh perspective to this film, and it’s his character that adds some comic relief in this edge-of-a-seat thriller. Divya Khossla and Anil Kapoor’s chemistry is really good. Anil Kapoor is the perfect fit for the role and he is just a delight to watch!
Harshvardhan Rane: He plays Savi’s husband Nakul Sachdev. Harshavardhan Rane nails his role as the supportive husband who is helpless inside the jail but still tries to become a pillar of support for his wife.

Storyline
Savi has a very interesting and fresh storyline. Firstly, it’s a female-led thriller which revolves around a woman who plans and executes the plan of breaking into a jail. Secondly, Savi has a very strong and empowering message for women, which is “she is NOT just a housewife”. This message has been beautifully wrapped and presented in the form of an engaging thriller that keeps you hooked throughout. Barring some loopholes in the plot, especially in the second half, Savi has an interesting plot with some unexpected twists and the clever writing left us impressed. Also, there are not many songs except one romantic song in the first half but it doesn’t affect the tone of the film. As an audience, we felt that the background score only added to the intensity of the film instead of being a distraction.
Direction
Abhinay Deo has yet again given an impressive film in the genre of thriller. The cinematography helps in telling the story effectively. The chasing scenes in the films and the camera work is sheer excellence, because it created those nail biting moment for us!

What Doesn’t Work?
As we mentioned earlier, in the second half of Savi, there are moments where a lot of creative freedom has been taken which makes the protagonist’s plan look very convenient and easy. We ended up questioning up the logic behind it. These mistakes could have been avoided in the writing but well, it is forgivable at the same time. The lack to establish a romantic chemistry between the characters of Divya Khossla and Harshvardhan Rane was also a evident. It would have been more easy to relate with the pain of Savi’s separation with her husband and understand the desperation to save him.
Verdict
Abhinay Deo’s Savi is a movie that should be experienced on the big. The plot and characters in the film are fresh and is break from the same old narratives that we are watching on the big screen. The performances are good, and all the lead actors are impressive, even the supporting cast. The film hit the theatres on May 31, Friday!
