Samantha Ruth Prabhu Reveals She Rejected ‘Shaakuntalam’ At First, Calls The Director A Feminist

Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu is gearing up for the big release of her much-anticipated film–Shaakuntalam. Starring Samantha and Dev Mohan in titular roles, the film is based on the play– Abhignyana Shakuntalam by Kalidasa. While most of us have watched Prabhu experimenting with her onscreen avatars these days, this role strives to put her in a different light for her fans.

Today, the actress arrived for a special press conference for the film and spoke about her role in the film. She revealed how she first rejected the film and said–”ever since my childhood, I was a fan of Disney films, so I was not confident enough that I could play the role of Shakuntala, a princess, who is a symbol of perfection. So, I was very scared at first. But if you noticed that in the last three years, I have been taking on a lot of challenges and finally I spoke to Dil Raju sir and he had a lot of confidence in me.”

This is what then pushed the actress to take it on as a challenge because it was her only chance to play her dream role. She also believes that how she connected with the script, the audience too will feel the same bond. She also mentioned how she always thought it was a simple story, but it definitely isn’t, and there is something for everyone in the film. She also promised that her fans will be surprised and happy to see her work. 

Furthermore, the actress praised the director of the film–Gunasekar and called him a feminist. She mentioned how each of his films beautifully portray women and their struggles.
