Saira Banu Breaks Downs Asking Bharat Ratna For Her Husband Dilip Kumar, Says He Is The ‘Kohinoor’ Of India

Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar spent 54 years of their life together. The bond remains unbreakable even after the sad demise of Dilip Kumar. Saira Banu stood strong with her late husband at every step of his life. Recently,  Dilip Kumar was announced as the recipient of the Dr. Bharat Ratna Ambedkar Award and his wife Saira Banu went ahead to accept it on his behalf. She could not control her flow of emotions throughout the ceremony and also put forth her opinion on her late husband deserving a Bharat Ratna.


The event took place on Tuesday in Mumbai, where  Dilip Ji was honoured with Dr Bharat Ratna Ambedkar Award. Saira Banu collected the award on his behalf and expressed a really emotional acceptance speech. She further expressed that Dilip Kumar deserves to get a Bharat Ratna Award. During her interaction with the media, Saira Banu referred to her late husband as the “Kohinoor’’ of India and further said that he should definitely get a Bharat Ratna. As per a news article, Saira Banu also expressed her feelings about missing Dilip Ji and said that he is still with her at every step of her life, and will always be there as her pillar of support.


The video posted by a paparazzi on Instagram shows Saira Banu receiving the award from Union Minister Ramdas Athawale. She later bursts into tears as Ramdas Athawale spoke about Dilip Kumar and how she had supported him his entire life. Saira stated that this is why she dislikes attending events because they make her feel emotional.


After a long illness, Dilip Kumar died on July 7, 2021, at the age of 98. That same day, he was buried with state honours at the Juhu Muslim Cemetry.
