Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor is all set to transform into the role of his lifetime with Ramayana. The actor is all set to play the character of lord Ram, but he is also facing a lot of criticism on the way. And while the film is still a year away from release, the expectations of the Hindu devotees are especially high. And recently, the film’s producer, Namit Malhotra, along with Sadhguru, addressed the unrealistic expectations the actor is facing.
Ranbir Kapoor In Ramayana
The producer of the two-part Ramayana epic, Namit Malhotra, visited the Isha Foundation and had a conversation with spiritual leader Sadhguru about the Ramayana. The conversation was later shared on the film’s YouTube channel. As Namit discussed the performers who will play Lord Rama, Hanuman, and Sita in the film, he stated that they face the expectation of truly becoming those characters. To this, he said, “If they have sense, they should become. It’s an opportunity that you get to play the role of Rama, so you’d better transform yourself. When will you do it in your life? At the same time, there will be a certain unrealistic expectation.”

Using the example of the Telugu cinema legend N.T. Rama Rao, Sadhguru, explained how actors portraying divine figures often face unique public expectations. Rama Rao played the role of Lord Krishna in dozens of films and was so adored by the audience that they even worshipped his pictures and later supported him politically. He pointed out that while playing revered characters can influence how people perceive an actor’s real-life persona, it’s ultimately the profession, though it’s also admirable when some of the characters’ virtues reflect in the actor.

When Malhotra mentioned how many criticised Ranbir Kapoor’s casting in Ramayana based on his old remarks, Sadhguru labelled these judgments as unfair. An actor’s job is to embody different characters, one day Ram, another day Ravana. Still, he acknowledged that the audience’s expectations also play a crucial role in the film’s success, adding that it would be ideal if both the actor and the director infuse a touch of Ram’s essence into their work.
