Despite ‘Barbie’ securing a nomination for Best Picture, Greta Gerwig found herself notably absent from the Best Director category, leaving many questioning the Academy’s decision. Equally perplexing was the absence of Margot Robbie from the Best Actress nominations, despite her standout performance in the film.

Ryan Gosling, a co-star in ‘Barbie,’ expressed his disappointment in a statement shared with People, emphasizing the inseparable connection between the film’s success and the contributions of both Gerwig and Robbie. Ryan Gosling stated that there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film. He also acknowledged the significant role played by Gerwig and Robbie and added that no recognition would be possible for anyone in the film without their talent, grit, and genius. Despite the disappointment, he extended his congratulations to America Ferrera and other nominated artists who contributed to the groundbreaking nature of ‘Barbie.’

America Ferrera, the only other member of the ‘Barbie’ cast to receive an Academy Award nomination, shared her disappointment with the exclusion of Gerwig and Robbie.
