Pune Law student Sharmistha Panoli was recently arrested in Haryana’s Gurugram by the Kolkata Police for communal comments on Operation Sindoor. She deleted her video after getting massive backlash on social media, was was taken into custody till June 13. Now, Anupamaa actress Rupali Ganguly has slammed the West Bengal Police over her arrest online. Read to know what she said.

Rupali Ganguly On Sharmistha Panoli’s Arrest

Television actress Rupali Ganguly is known for speaking her mind, especially on social and political matters. And on Tuesday, June 3, she lashed out at law student and social media influencer Sharmistha’s arrest. She recently reacted to a post in which the accused’s lawyer, Md Samimuddin, claimed that the police had failed to maintain proper hygiene despite her current battle with kidney stones.

The lawyer also lashed out at authorities for not providing her access to newspapers or magazines. They have filed a petition in the court to get Panoli’s basic human rights, and asked why she was being treated like a ‘gangster.’ Rupali wrote, “Has West Bengal Police, so much under the pressure of Mamata Banerjee, that they have forgotten even basic humanity?” Check out her X (Previously Twitter) post here!

Previously, actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut also condemned the girl’s arrest and urged them not to turn into ‘South Korea.’ According to Kangana, the arrest didn’t make any sense since she had already apologised. Likewise, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also mentioned that secularism should be a ‘two-way street.’ He slammed the government’s decision to arrest.

Additionally, Sharmistha Panoli also questioned Bollywood celebrities for keeping their silence during the Operation Sindoor. This further fueled the conversation and received much backlash from the netizens.
