The ongoing feud between television actor Rupali Ganguly and her stepdaughter, Esha Verma, has escalated, with the Anupamaa star now moving to the Bombay High Court. The legal battle stems from a defamation case filed by Rupali against Esha, seeking damages of Rs 50 crore. This development comes after Esha’s allegations against Rupali and her father, Ashwin Verma, went viral on social media, leading to public outrage and media scrutiny.
Anupama Ganguly, Esha Verma Defamation Case
The controversy began when Esha shared an old post accusing Rupali of contributing to her traumatic childhood. She alleged that Rupali had stolen her mother’s jewellery, physically abused her mother, and caused her significant emotional distress. Esha also claimed she felt unsafe around both Rupali and Ashwin, accusing them of abusive behaviour and even stating that Rupali had been involved in an affair with Ashwin prior to their marriage. Ashwin Verma, Esha’s father and Rupali’s husband, defended Rupali, stating that his strained relationship with his daughter had no connection to his wife. Despite his rebuttal, Esha continued to share videos on social media detailing her accusations, which further fueled the controversy.
On November 11, Rupali Ganguly filed a defamation suit against Esha, citing irreparable damage to her reputation. Represented by lawyer Sana Raees Khan, Rupali has now taken the case to the Bombay High Court to ensure her name is protected against what she deems baseless and malicious allegations. The legal team argued that no individual, regardless of location, should misuse public platforms to defame others without facing accountability. Following the legal notice, Esha reportedly deleted her social media posts and deactivated her Twitter account, though she expressed her disappointment, claiming the legal action was harsh and punitive.
For context, Ashwin Verma was married twice before his union with Rupali. Esha, his daughter from his second marriage to Sapna, currently resides in New Jersey, USA. This family conflict has brought to light deep-seated issues, with public allegations highlighting unresolved tensions.
