Tota Roy Chowdhury’s character was particularly loved because of the Kathak dance sequence with Ranveer Singh AKA Rocky Randhawa. Audience reactions showed that they were literally not prepared for it. But you will be happy to know that this loved character was actually inspired by Karan Johar’s childhood. During a conversation with Film Companion, Karan Johar revealed that Tota Roy Chowdhury’s character was effeminate similar to this of his childhood days. KJo added that he too was effeminate as a child and used to dance to Hindi songs in his own room. KJo added that his father clapped and cheered for him when he danced. The RRKPK director also recalled that while he felt nothing wrong with that during his childhood, as an adult he had some really bad memories of college. Furthermore, Karan Johar stated that Tota Roy Chowdhury’s character was taken from his childhood and just like him, the character also strongly believed that talent has no gender.
