Debuts are always special! Whether it is a theatrical debut or an OTT debut, the excitement is at its peak. With Freedom At Midnight, fans will be able to witness RJ Malishka’s acting debut. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, Freedom at Midnight follows the story of India and Pakistan’s partition and features a multi-star cast. RJ Malishka will be seen portraying Sarojini Naidu, and in an exclusive conversation with Hauterrfly, she revealed the thought behind choosing this series as her debut project.
RJ Malishka On Playing Sarojini Naidu In Freedom At Midnight
On being asked about the reason she chose a role like Sarojini Naidu or a historical drama like Freedom at Midnight as her debut project, here’s what RJ Malishka said! She stated, “I can’t get over this question! The question reflects as if we had a choice in the matter. Like, would you say no to Freedom at Midnight? Just look at the fundamentals behind it. Like, you have Nikkhil Advani directing it, you have a great production house backing it, you know the kind of work they have done, and you know it will be solid! Secondly, the kind of portrayal of what we are doing. I’d like to say that when you watch something on screen, something new comes up. You watch it, you are entertained, and you walk out and say, ‘It was a good show.’ This is not just about being a good show; it is beyond being a good show. As in, you will watch it and you will enjoy it because of the entertainment it provides. But what it tells you about history—how much you learn—is fascinating for the next generation and for younger people to get a glimpse into what history was like.”
It’s been a while since we saw something like this. The last time I remember reading my history textbooks and saying this is what Bapu must have been like. After that, I feel social media is filled with untrue stuff, not based on reality, just giving their opinions. Nothing is really based on something that is documented, which this book is. Also, to be placed with such fabulous responsibility to play a freedom fighter who did so much, and there’s the use of prosthetics for the ageing process. So, you know that you are going to do a lot of work on this. So much hard work, but what a fabulous outcome it would be. So, there is no option for ‘Hey, why did you choose this?’ I don’t think anyone who might have been offered any role in this show if the director or the casting saw the vision like ‘we see you in this role’ would have denied it. I am very glad that I get to be a part of this show telling history and becoming a part of history.”
