Our patriarchal world is truly scared of women empowerment but if there’s anything that’s even more scary, it’s women who are sexually empowered. And that’s precisely what Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor produced film Thank You For Coming is all about. Starring Bhumi Pednekar, Shehnaaz Gill, Shibani Bedi, Dolly Singh and Kusha Kapila, this film about female pleasure, sexual empowerment and self-love seems to have pissed off a large section of the society that operates on systematic oppression of women. As a result, a foreign trade journalist decided to attack the film and even went as far as incite violence against them. However, Rhea Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Bhumi Pedenekar and other stars decided to take a moment to call him out for the “hate speech” and “misogynistic rhetorics” and rightly so.
In an official statement posted by Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor, the producers rightly lashed out at a “credible trade journalist” who has been posting “dangerous hate speech” against the producers of the film while admitting that he hasn’t watched the film. Without revealing the name of the journalist, both Ekta and Rhea shared that the man is angered by the message that Thank You For Coming sends with regards to women’s rejection of shame. The producers further shared that the journalist made misogynistic statements and claimed that stories like that of Thank You For Coming have no place in “Hindi Cinema” and also encouraged violence against them.

Of course, give a man a smartphone and internet and he’ll want to tell what stories women are “allowed” to tell via cinema. Further, Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor revealed that while they do not pay attention to the comments made by trolls, they were in for a shock when they found out that this man has an actual impact on the entertainment industry.
As much as I hate to admit this, I get it. Thanks to patriarchy, a man’s word seems to always hold more power than a woman’s. It’s no surprise that this man is using his male privilege and power to put women down because he’s clearly intimidated by women having more power over their own bodies and destigmatising the conversation around female pleasure. Despite data that reveals the shocking orgasm gap (no thanks to men), this man has decided to shame women for discussing a hush-hush topic. Why so fragile, sir? Did women talking about female pleasure threaten your masculinity and male ego?

Curious to know more about this man, I decided to take a deeper dive. A look at Ekta Kapoor’s Instagram story revealed that this man also seems to have attacked Anubhav Sinha’s Taapsee Pannu starrer film Thappad.
A look at the comment section of Ekta Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor’s posts revealed comments from Sonam Kapoor supporting Thank You For Coming and the makers of the film. The actress also revealed that the trade analyst in question is not an Indian or NRI but is rather a foreigner. Terming him misogynistic and tacky, the actress stated that the man is simply frustrated because he couldn’t make it in the film industry.
Reacting to the comment, Ekta Kapoor shared that the trade journalist in question wanted the producers of the film to be garlanded with potatoes and tomatoes and went on to mock him by questioning if he knows how expensive tomatoes are these days.

Bhumi Pednekar also shared the same official statement on her Instagram story and expressed shock about the choice of words used by the unnamed journalist.
Dolly Singh, Kusha Kapila, Shiban Bedi, Karan Kundrra and more also shared the statement and reacted to the incident.
For the unversed, at the time of Thappad release director Anubhav Sinha, Ekta Kapoor and several other celebs called out a portal that reported the Box Office collection of the film while attacking it.
