During her appearance on the podcast, InControversial with Pooja Chaudhri, Renuka Shahne voiced her opinion on the same. She said that whenever anyone stays in a place for a long period, they must understand the local language and culture. She highlighted how one must be respectful of it. It’s less about fluently speaking the language, rather about showing respect towards it. According to her, there’s a clear discomfort with those who don’t feel the need to be accommodating of the local language.

She said, “I do not like violence at all, you know; I do not like the fact that people can be rude about it.” Shahane said that slapping people who do not speak Marathi will not help the language. This debate comes after the Maharashtra Government decided to make Hindi a compulsory third language in schools. While the decision was taken back, reports suggested that several members of MNS got into a heated argument with people who didn’t speak the Marathi language.
