Reem Shaikh opens up on getting her first period and what happened after!

Reem Shaikh, a popular actor known for shows like Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal, Fanaa Ishq Mein Marjawan and more recently appeared on Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist and shared a heartfelt story about a pivotal moment in her life getting her first period while on a shoot. Reem’s candid revelation sheds light on the importance of normalizing conversations about menstruation, especially in the entertainment industry.
Reem Shaikh On Her First Period
Recalling the experience, Reem said, “Meri maa bht bholi aur pyaari si hai toh wo thi thodi awkward ye sab samjhane k liye mujhe ye chize pehle. And I remember bachpan mein wo garments k shoot bht karti thi mai toh mai usi ek shoot mein thi and my periods came.” She described how, as a child, she was confused and turned to her mother for help. “I told my mother I said, ‘Mumma wo na khun aa rha hai,’ and maine sirf itna bola and that was my whole story.”
Despite her mother’s initial awkwardness in explaining periods to her young daughter, Reem expressed gratitude for the way her mom supported her in navigating the moment. Reem also opened up about the role of her male friends in creating a safe and respectful environment, especially during menstruation. “I have a lot of male friends around me who are respectful towards it, can take care and are really the nicest friends when they know I am on periods. They will take care,” she shared.

The actor highlighted the importance of having male allies who are understanding and supportive during such times. She said, “Ek aadmi ka itna comfort level dena ek aurat ko ki wo jake bol ske usko ki can you go to the chemist and get me pads wo bhi bht badi baat hai aj k time pe and my friends have given me that comfort.”
