Ready or Not 2: Here I Come Review: It’s A Wild, Gory Sequel With Some Hits And Misses!

Ready-or-Not-2-Here-I-Come-Movie-Review-Samara-Weaving-Shawn-Hatosy-Sarah-Michelle-Gellar

Looking back, I was never a big fan of gore films, but I’ve slowly started to understand the hype. It’s not just the bloody and violent scenes but the comedic elements that balance everything out perfectly. With that in mind, I watched Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. As a direct sequel to the 2019 hit, the film delivered a pleasing big-screen experience with some ifs and buts. Read on!

Plot

The story picks up right after the first movie ends. Grace, played by Samara Weaving, is in the hospital recovering from her terrifying wedding night with the deadly Le Domas family. She defeated them, but it came at a heavy cost. While still weak and under police questioning, her estranged sister Faith, played by Kathryn Newton, suddenly shows up. Grace had forgotten to change her emergency contact, which creates an awkward but important moment between them. Just as they start talking, both sisters get kidnapped by a new group of rich and dangerous people who follow the same dark rules. What follows is another deadly game of survival, but this time it is bigger, messier, and bloodier.

Performances

Samara Weaving absolutely owns the movie as Grace. She brings her fire and charm to the role and plays it with even more power than the first film. She screams, fights, and runs like a baddie who is done being scared. You can clearly see her character grow from someone just surviving to someone ready to fight back.

Shawn Hatosy is amazing as Titus. He is both terrifying and hilarious at the same time. His wild and unhinged energy makes him one of the most entertaining villains in the movie.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is great as Ursula. She brings sharp wit and wicked charm that fits the role perfectly. Her toxic sibling chemistry with Shawn Hatosy feels natural and fun to watch.

Kathryn Newton does well as Grace’s sister Faith. She adds heart and humour to the film and creates an emotional balance.

Elijah Wood makes a strong impression as the Lawyer. He plays the role with quiet creepiness and perfect deadpan humour. The other actors also did a solid job.

Verdict

What I loved most were the bloody action scenes. The killing scenes are creative, the effects look impressive, and the gore feels stylish on the big screen. The mix of horror and comedy works nicely. It is silly, funny, and entertaining at the same time.

I also enjoyed the mythology and new rules introduced in this sequel and the bigger scale made it feel like a proper follow-up. The cinematography is good and makes even the violent scenes oddly pleasing to watch. Surprisingly, I started enjoying the gore this time instead of looking away.

However, the movie has a few weaknesses. It doesn’t match the clever natures and tight storytelling of the first film. The plot sometimes gets too complicated with a few rules and side stories. Honestly, even though the actors are excellent, the sisterly bond felt a bit forced and not fully developed.

Also, the ending left me very disappointed. The film builds up a lot of curiosity and tension, but the final payoff doesn’t feel big or satisfying enough.

Still, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is a good big-screen experience. The bgm, visuals, and performances made it more fun. If you liked the first movie and want more bloody, chaotic scenes, this one is worth watching.

As someone who is slowly warming up to gore films, this sequel helped me enjoy the genre more. The comedy and over-the-top action created a nice balance. It is not perfect, but it is entertaining enough to recommend to friends who enjoy this style of horror-comedy.

It will be released on April 3. Are you going to watch it?
