Rasika Dugal On Intimacy Directors
Rasika when asked about what is her take on the increased portrayal of sex in shows and movies and the growing discourse around it, she said “I think what is good about the discourse around s*x is that now we have intimacy directors,” Rasika stated. She emphasized the importance of these professionals in creating a safe and respectful environment for actors during the filming of intimate scenes. When asked about her experience on the set of Mirzapur, Rasika acknowledged that they did not have intimacy directors at the time. “Uss samay nhi the, but the set was very, very sensitive, and we had been told how it’s going to be filmed, shot by shot. It was a closed set and all of that,” she explained.
A closed set refers to a filming environment where only essential crew members are present, ensuring privacy and comfort for the actors. Rasika elaborated on how this setup helps actors feel at ease while shooting bold scenes. “The knowledge that somebody is watching out, that nobody should enter the other person’s space where they feel violated or uncomfortable, is crucial,” she said.
She further described the importance of workshops that are often conducted to educate actors on good touch, bad touch, and personal triggers. “So there are workshops to see good touch, bad touch, what are the areas that are triggers for you when you are touched and you feel unsafe. So you have a base plan, to begin with, you know that this is allowed and this isn’t, and even if you change your mind, it’s respected.”
In the latest episode of Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, Rasika Dugal also shares her take on relationship struggles, how to reconcile with your partner and more.
