The much-loved 2008 comedy Singh is Kinng, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, is getting a sequel, as confirmed by producer Shailendra Singh. Known for its mix of humour, action, and Akshay’s energetic portrayal of the lovable character Happy Singh, the original film is remembered fondly by fans. With the sequel, the production team aims to capture the same lively spirit while bringing new faces into the spotlight.

Singh Is Kinng Sequel In Works

Shailendra Singh recently revealed some exciting casting possibilities for Singh is Kinng 2, sharing that Ranveer Singh is his top choice for the lead role. Citing Ranveer’s vibrant personality and knack for high-energy characters, Shailendra explained that the actor’s charisma would be perfect for the comedic tone of the sequel. If Ranveer’s busy schedule doesn’t align, the team is considering Diljit Dosanjh, whose comedic timing and natural charm make him a strong alternative.

Plans are underway for filming to begin in October 2025, with a target release in 2026. Singh hinted that, while the original character Happy Singh will not make a return, the sequel will introduce a new protagonist to carry on the spirit of the beloved original. The title may be Singh is Kinng 2 or even Singh is Kinng Returns, marking the continuation of this hit franchise.

However, this addition to Bollywood’s growing sequel lineup has raised mixed responses. Fans of the original are excited, but many cinephiles feel the industry has become too focused on sequels and remakes, sacrificing originality for nostalgia. They argue that bringing fresh stories to audiences is essential rather than repeatedly rehashing older favorites.

Shailendra Singh still deciding between veteran comedy directors Priyadarshan and Anees Bazmee, fans can expect a film with comedic flair in line with the original. Ranveer Singh is currently working on an action thriller with director Aditya Dhar, while Diljit Dosanjh is busy with his Dil-Luminati tour and upcoming roles in No Entry 2 and Border 2.
