Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has been embroiled in a massive controversy following a recent incident during an interaction with South actor Rishab Shetty at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Ranveer has been facing harsh criticism for mimicking Rishab Shetty’s character in Kantara during the closing ceremony of the event. Ranveer Singh Apologises For Mimicking Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Act
On Tuesday morning, 2nd December, Ranveer Singh took to his official Instagram account to share a note of apology on his story, which read, “My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration.”
He concluded the apology by writing, “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”
About Ranveer’s Kantara Controversy
On Friday, Ranveer Singh attended the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The actor was on stage during the closing ceremony when he praised Rishab Shetty, sitting in the audience. Clips from the event show Ranveer saying, “I watched Kantara Chapter 1 in theatres, and Rishab, it was an outstanding performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi daiva) enters your body – that shot was amazing.” He then mimicked the scene, and Rishab was seen laughing. However, his actions quickly attracted criticism on social media, with many calling them insensitive and disrespectful. They also pointed out Ranveer’s ignorance in calling the daivas, holy forest Gods – ghosts.
Another video showed that Rishab Shetty had warned Ranveer not to mock him earlier during the show, which further angered netizens. A Hindu group has also submitted a complaint to the police against the actor for hurting their religious sentiments.
