Throughout her career, Rani Mukerji has consistently made sure to entertain the audience. She recently completed 30 years in the Hindi film industry and to celebrate that she sat down with Karan Johar at an event held in Mumbai. During the candid chat, the actress opened up about feeling hurt for not winning a National Award for Black, which also starred Amitabh Bachchan. Read ahead to know more!

Rani Mukerji On Not Winning National Award For Black

During her chat with Karan Johar, Rani Mukerji reportedly said that not winning the National Award for Black had hurt her and her parents. The actress stated that she became an actor because her mom asked her and she soon realised that through the work, she could probably give a better life to her parents. Rani added that this was her dream for a few years and that’s why she kept working in movies. Further, the actress recalled receiving fan mail and realised that the audience believed in her work and she needed to maintain their faith via choosing better roles and films. Rani added that she wanted make her fans happy by opting for the best films and directors.

She revealed that not receiving the National Award for Black did hurt her, but it happened for the best, as her goal was not to win an award so that it would make her happy today. Rani thinks that winning an award is about the recognition that the entire team gets. The Mardaani star said that when one is recognised, the team and the audience feel elated. She realised very early on in her life that “despite doing your best work, you might not get the appreciation you deserve” and that someone else’s performance is probably better than yours. The actress added that one has to strive for the best.

In case you did not know, Amitabh Bachchan won the National Award for his performance in Black. Additionally, the film also won the said honour for the Best Feature Film in Hindi. Last year, Rani Mukerji won her first National Award for Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway. 

As far as her professional front goes, Rani will be seen in Mardaani 3. The film is slated to hit the theatres on January 30, 2026. We’re sure the actress and the entire cast will once again amaze us with their powerful performances in the film!
