Speaking about Imtiaz Ali’s 2014 road drama Highway, Randeep expressed his hurt over being left out of the film’s promotional campaign!

Randeep Hooda, known for his intense roles and powerful screen presence, is currently basking in praise for his menacing portrayal of Ranatunga in the new action-drama Jaat, where he stars opposite Sunny Deol. While Sunny takes the lead, Randeep’s performance as the fierce antagonist has drawn equal admiration. Amid the buzz around his latest release, the actor recently sat down for a candid chat on journalist Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube podcast, where he opened up about a lingering disappointment from his past work.
Randeep Hooda Opens Up On Highway Promotions And Being Left Out
Speaking about Imtiaz Ali’s 2014 road drama Highway, Randeep expressed his hurt over being left out of the film’s promotional campaign. He admitted that the lack of support at the time impacted his career, saying that if he had been involved in the promotions, it could have helped him move forward in the industry. What left many surprised was Randeep’s comment about Ranbir Kapoor’s presence during Highway’s promotional phase. The actor said he too was puzzled by it and didn’t understand why Ranbir was part of the promotional campaign, considering he had no direct connection to the film. Ranbir, who had worked with director Imtiaz Ali in Rockstar (2011) and later in Tamasha (2015), had reportedly watched an early cut of Highway and joined Alia Bhatt and Imtiaz for a promotional shoot at Film City.
Randeep also spoke about the possible beginning of Alia and Ranbir’s relationship around that time. Without any bitterness, he offered his best wishes to the couple, saying that if that moment led to something meaningful in their personal lives, he was genuinely happy for them.
Reflecting further, Randeep noted that perhaps the film wasn’t gaining enough traction in its final promotional days, and only then was he brought in to participate. He also acknowledged that the film focused on a woman’s journey through trauma and survival, which may have led the makers to spotlight Alia more heavily during promotions.
Even so, Highway remains a beloved film in both Alia and Randeep’s filmographies.
