A blockbuster!

Animal Trailer: Ranbir Kapoor Paints Our Screens Red With Blood, Gore, Gun And Smoking Hot Bobby Deol. But Where’s Rashmika Mandanna?

*Trigger Warning: Violence, blood shed, gore, and domestic violence* After fetching Dharma productions, a great opening for Brahmāstra: Part One, maybe not reviews, Ranbir Kapoor is on his way towards churning out another blockbuster. Joining hands with Kabir Singh and Arjun Reddy fame filmmaker–Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Kapoor has the best Diwali gift, parcelled to cinemas this month of December. The actor’s Animal trailer is finally out. Sigh, breathe and pause. Take a moment Kapoor, we bow down to you. As someone who had the privilege of speaking to him for 38 seconds (precisely), and was on the receiving end of a warm, ultra-warm hug, I am still not biased (maybe a tad bit), as I declare Animal to be another spectacular performance by Kapoor, in his close to two-decade-long career.

The first frame will walk you down to nostalgia, as he reminds you of this broken, bruised man Sanju in the Sanjay Dutt biopic. Long hair, a million packs of cigarettes and B Praak’s powerful background music will captivate your attention in the first half. Toxicity garnishing this volcano of emotions, guides Ranbir, as he plays the central character in the film. All frames have Kapoor, taking the spotlight, as his co-star Rashmika Mandanna, makes it to a string of only a few. Not to mention, her name missing in the main poster, is a conversation for another day.

Actors Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol who play pivotal roles, wear their characters as second skin. With Kapoor lurking in the same frame, they manage to equate his aura with these breathtaking visuals. Thumping dialogues, and Punjabi verses, beautifully set the tone of the trailer. And no, there are no flashbacks of either Kabir Singh or Arjun Reddy, because Arjan Vailly doesn’t allow you to even blink for a bit. This unique or rather distorted father-son bond, has you on the edge, as he turns out to be the man, who is born out of this fractured relationship. Muscles, hair-chested abs, and an untamed beard embellish Ranbir, as he enters the screen, with guns and blood as his favourite accessories.

Bobby Deol as the antagonist, seems injected with steroids, as he presents himself as this bulky man, with popping eye sockets and bushy hair. His emotional bandwidth, seems to take a stretch, as tears run down his face, as effortlessly, as the blood on his face. We’re sure, Deol is soon to become Bollywood’s favourite new villain. Women in the film, find it hard to make it to this screen full of armed men, but Mandanna still has an edge, mouthing dialogues, that we find hard to understand. A glimpse of actress Tripti Dimri, and senior actors Prem Chopra and Shakti Kapoor, also make it to this ensemble of stars and have us seated for what’s more.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s promising approach to bring action to the big screen seems like a big dream, which we’re totally invested in. And we’re ready to take a dip in the sea of bloodshed, dysfunctional family drama, action and passionate romance, as Animal comes to theatres on December 1, 2023.
