The 2000s were both troublesome and a new trail of happiness for the Roshans. With Hrithik Roshan’s debut with a banger like Kaho Na Pyaar Hai to Rakesh Roshan getting shot due to the underworld, it was a rollercoaster ride. In his upcoming documentary, The Roshans, the director opened up about the underworld’s increase in his son, and his refusal to cast him in a film funded by them, leading to him being shot by a gun. The tragedy was explored.

Rakesh Roshan Opens Up About Being Shot

Hrithik Roshan was hailed as a good-looking man after his debut in the 2000 film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai alongside Ameesha Patel. We all know the involvement of the underworld in Bollywood back then, which led to them eagerly waiting to see the up-and-coming star in their funded film. They reached out to Rakesh Roshan to cast their son.

“I never gave any indication that Hrithik could do a film for them. I kept putting them off, saying Hrithik had no dates, which, in any case, was the truth. They then asked me to take dates away from other producers and give it to them. This again, I refused to do,” Rakesh Roshan told Bollywood Hungama.

He revealed that he was not determined to give in to them despite the fear and tension in the air. But Rakesh’s actions had severe consequences. A week after he refused to cast Hrithik Roshan in their film, he was shot in broad daylight while leaving his Mumbai office. He miraculously drove himself to the hospital and was able to recover.

During a previous interview with Simi Garewal, Hrithik Roshan blamed himself for the tragedy. He revealed how he had never seen his dad like that lying in the hospital bed. He stated he even wanted to quit films after that as it was not worth his father’s life.
