Rajkummar Rao is beaming with joy because of the success of his latest film Stree 2 at the box office. The actor has been giving back-to-back interviews and very recently also defended Shah Rukh Khan’s famous film Devdas and also liked Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in the film Animal. The actor spoke in detail about his views on both.

Rajkumar Rao Talks About Devdas And Animal

In a recent podcast chat with YouTuber Raj Shamani, Rajkummar Rao was asked about his views on glorifying negative characters in films. Shamani cited examples of Shah Rukh Khan’s Devdas and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal which was successful, yet deemed controversial due to its regressive themes towards women. To this, the Stree 2 actor suggested that if someone is trying to imitate the character of Devas in real life, then the problem is with them.

He continued by saying that a filmmaker is presenting a story of a guy like him, but not asking everyone to be like him. Rao also pointed out that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s directorial was based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel and that several successful films inspired by the same novel have been made in Bengal. He said that it’s the character’s story and he dies in the end. Rajkummar Rao says that the character is instead telling you that if you do this, you will die sooner. “He is not telling you that he is going through all this, yet he has a lot of money.”

The Newton actor says that Devdas‘ condition worsens because he is on the road and does not have a house or family. According to him, the director told a love tale and showed its consequences. He further talked about Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal that he loved the film and enjoyed the experience while watching it. He acknowledged that there were some scenes in the film that he did not agree with, yet he enjoyed the experience of watching it.

Raj revealed that a senior critic responding to the negative discussion stated that the filmmaker had titled it Animal. The film was not titled ‘Idol Man’ or ‘Aadarsh Purush‘, yet the character in it behaves accordingly. Addressing the criticism, he added that, as the film’s title implies, the filmmaker has already stated that people will be “coming to watch an animal” in theatres.
