Radhika Apte On Female Casting In South Indian Films
The actor will soon be seen in Netflix’s web-show Akka. She is busy with the show’s promotion alongside Keerty Suresh. During an interview with News 18, the actor was asked about her distance from the South Indian film industry. Radhika Apte went on to highlight the issue of female casting in the South. She said that fair-skinned girls from North India are cast in the South instead of their South Indian actresses. This practice left Radhika Apte wondering.
The actor further added that she refused to promote such a practice. She went on to praise the beauty and talent of South Indian actresses, and their strong grip on the language. According to Radhika Apte, she was not in favour of South Indian actresses not being cast and instead actors from Bombay taking the role, and getting their voices dubbed because they say a word in the language. She also went to accept that language as a barrier for her when working in South Indian films. While the actor acknowledged that she performs in seven languages, she also went to add that if she forgot her line, and needed to improvise, the knowledge of the language was important. Radhika Apte accepted that the lack of knowledge of these languages made her realise that she couldn’t do justice to those films.
Radhika Apte’s Akka is releasing on October 30.
