Acclaimed All We Imagine As Light filmmaker Payal Kapadia made headlines last year at Cannes, where her film was nominated for the Palme d’Or and won the Grand Prix. This year, she returns as a jury member at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, in a fine-tailored and deconstructed plaid suit by Rishta designer Arjun Saluja. The entire look, giving major boss lady vibes.
Payal’s Cannes look
Payal Kapadia was styled by long-time friend and collaborator Indrakshi Pattanaik. Indrakshi shared that the team wanted to portray the qualities of the filmmaker through her outfit. Hence, it was an extension of her intelligence, grounded nature, and expression. The asymmetrical tailoring, and balanced silhouette exuded an aura of power, but also represented something that was unapologetically Payal. The design aligned with this year’s Cannes dress code, which called for classic looks over over-the-top, sheer or voluminous outfits.

Success Of All We Imagine As Light
While talking with the press at the festival, Payal expressed gratitude for the success of All We Imagine As Light. She said the exposure the film got at Cannes last year greatly helped the team with the movie’s distribution in India. She went on to say that one of the most important things to a filmmaker is that their work is seen and recognised in their own country, and Payal is grateful she got an opportunity to do so.
Future projects
The filmmaker had previously revealed that her film All We Imagine As Light was part of a trilogy. She talked a bit more about the next part of this series, saying that it, too, is based out of Mumbai.
