The Oscars 2026 took place on March 15, 2026, and the winners’ list was full of obvious choices, some surprises, and quite a few first-time awardees. Whether it was KPop Demon Hunters‘ historic wins or Michael B. Jordon’s first-ever trophy, the 98th Academy Awards winners had viewers a little misty-eyed. Considered the highest honour in Hollywood, this year’s ceremony featured beautiful fashion moments, gorgeous presenters, and most of all, solidarity as the who’s who of cinema gathered to celebrate the movies released in 2025. Best Picture
One Battle After Another has dominated this year’s award ceremonies. Following the trend, it also won Best Picture over Sinners, Hamnet, Sentimental Value, Frankenstein, and more. Others also nominated included Marty Supreme, Bugonia, F1, The Secret Agent, and Train Dreams.
Best Actress
Jessie Buckley won this category for her role in Hamnet. Her portrayal of Agnes’s grief also won her the BAFTA 2026. Emma Stone, Kate Hudson, Rose Byrne, and Renate Reinsve were the other nominees.
Best Actor
Despite losing out on several big awards throughout 2026, Michael B. Jordon’s dual roles as Smoke and Stack bagged him the Oscar trophy. He was in great company in this category with Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, and Wagner Moura, making his win all the more special.
Best Director
One Battle After Another director Paul Thomas Anderson has led the 2026 award shows with almost a full sweep, and this was no different. He won the Best Director trophy, defeating Ryan Coogler, Josh Safdie, Joachim Trier, and Chloé Zhao in the process.
Best Supporting Actress
Weapons‘ Amy Madigan claimed an Academy Award for this category over Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Wunmi Mosaku, and Teyana Taylor.
Best Supporting Actor
Winning his third Oscar for One Battle After Another, Sean Penn surprisingly skipped the ceremony. Others in the category included Benicio del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Delroy Lindo, and Stellan Skarsgård.
Best International Feature
Despite the heartbreaking The Voice Of Hind Rajab also being nominated, Sentimental Value won, with The Secret Agent, It Was Just an Accident, and Sirât also receiving nominations. Priyanka Chopra presented this award with Javier Bardem. Notably, Homebound did not receive a final nomination in the category, but it was universally appreciated for its themes and screenplay.
Best Animated Feature
As expected, KPop Demon Hunters triumphed over Arco, Elio, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, and Zootopia 2. The film’s impressive list of Awards also includes a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Movie Award in similar categories.
Best Original Song
‘Golden’ from KPop Demon Hunters was on everyone’s playlist last year, and the Oscars 2026 seem to concur. It won over strong contenders, ‘Dear Me’, ‘I Lied To You’, ‘Sweet Dreams of Joy’, and ‘Train Dreams’.
Best Documentary Feature
Mr Nobody Against Putin claimed this award over Come See Me in the Good Light, Cutting Through the Rocks, The Alabama Solution, and The Perfect Neighbor.
Best Original Screenplay
Ryan Coogler won for his original screenplay of Sinners despite strong competition from Robert Kaplow, Jafar Panahi, Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie, and Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier.
Best Adapted Screenplay
Another feather in the cap for One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Paul Thomas Anderson claimed this Oscar, too!
Best Original Score
Winning in yet another category, the Oscar for Best Original Score was awarded to Ludwig Goransson for Sinners.
Best Cinematography
Autumn Durald Arkapawm, cinematographer for Sinners, won in the category. She is the first woman ever to be awarded in this category, a shock given that it is the 98th Academy Awards in 2026.
Best Film Editing
Best Picture winner One Battle After Another claimed yet another win for editing. The trophy was awarded to Andy Jurgensen.
Best Sound
Taking a film about car racing beyond the vrooming, Gareth John, Al Nelson, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, Gary A Rizzo, and Juan Peralta won in this category for their work in F1.
Best Visual Effects
Known for its brilliant CGI since its inception, Avatar: Fire And Ice won this Oscar, with Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon, and Daniel Barrett collecting the trophy for their work.
Best Production Design
Frankenstein‘s Tamara Deverell and Shane Vieau were winners in this category for the Guillermo del Toro feature.

Best Casting
A new award since 2026, this category was won by Cassandra Kulukundis for One Battle After Another.
Best Make-up And Hairstyling
Scaring everyone with subtle horror, Frankenstein’s Mike Hill, Jordan Samuel, and Cliona Furey obtained the Oscar in this category.
Best Costume Design
Kate Hawley’s costumes and styling won Frankenstein another award in this category. This one, too, was well-deserved.
Best Animated Short
The Girl Who Cried Pearls won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film over Butterfly, Forevergreen, Retirement Plan, and The Three Sisters.
Best Live Action Short
The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva were the joint winners for this Oscar! Other nominees in the category were A Friend of Dorothy, Butcher’s Stain, and Jane Austen’s Period Drama.
Best Documentary Short
All the Empty Rooms emerged as the victor at the 98th Academy Awards for this category. It defeated Armed Only with a Camera: The Life and Death of Brent Renaud, Children No More: Were and Are Gone, The Devil Is Busy, and Perfectly a Strangeness.
