Is GMMTV’s Cat For Cash BL Worth Watching? Here’s The First Impression!
Is FirstKhaotung's latest BL with GMMTV, Cat For Cash, worth the hype?
GMMTV’s latest BL offering with FirstKhaotung as the main pairing, Cat For Cash, has excited fans worldwide, and for good reason. The hit partnership returns after their uber successful outing as one of the main couples in 2023’s ‘Only Friends’ and 2024’s ‘The Heart Killers’. The first episode is up on GMMTV’s YouTube channel, and I have some thoughts. Read on for our first impression of this newest BL series.
Note: This article contains spoilers about Episode 1 of Cat For Cash.
Cat For Cash: Plot and Characters
Endeared and intrigued after watching the trailer, I had high hopes for this one. For all my cynicism about love, I love a good soft romantic comedy. From the onset, Cat For Cash sets itself up as equal parts clichéd and anomalous. “First” Kanaphan Puitrakul stars as the ruthless debt collector, Tiger, who crushes a debtor’s cellphone as a warning. His soft spot? Cats. How serendipitous, then, that he must collect from a lovely auntie, who owns a cat cafe.
Circumstances cause her son, Lynx (“Khaotung” Thanawat Rattanakitpaisan), to inherit the cats, cafe, and debt. As he learns to reckon with everything his mother has left him, his creditor also acquires something he can’t give up.

Melancholy, Meowing, And Tenderness
Loss is inevitable, but the way the series handles it makes the difference. Sadness comes in waves, and when it is high tide, we’re knocked off our feet. Khaotung shines as he breaks down, but it is the way his Lynx quietly mourns that will stay with me. First charms as the debt-collector with a heart of gold, and FirstKhaotung’s chemistry in Cat For Cash is exquisite.
The cats, apparently voiced by LYKN members (fans recognised Hong, Lego, and Tui’s voices in this episode), are well-choreographed and will give you the warm fuzzies. If you need another reason to watch, Bonnie’s OST ‘Love Language’ feels like being wrapped in a blanket on a cold day.
Director Kornphom Niyomsilp (2gether, Ossan’s Love), also known as P’Aof, weaves his magic throughout ‘Cat’; it delivers in the way grief seems to rain down forcefully when it pours outside the temple. The episode made me yearn to dive into the next one. I usually wait for all episodes of a series to come out before watching, but this one might be the exception.
With the cats running away in the preview for Episode 2, will Tiger and Lynx be able to put their heads together and bring them back? Watch the first episode now on GMMTV’s official YouTube channel, with new episodes coming out every Tuesday.
