Homebound Shortlisted For Oscars 2026

Homebound, produced by Karan Johar through his production company, Dharma Productions, has qualified for the next level of voting for an Oscar award among 15 other global films. In the next round, Academy members are scheduled to screen the shortlisted films in preparation for voting on nominees.

Homebound is the second major motion picture from acclaimed filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan, who first made waves with his critically acclaimed film Masaan in 2015. Homebound premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and has also had a successful screening at TIFF, garnering positive reviews from audiences.

Karan Johar, the producer of the film, tweeted an emotional message after the news of the Oscar shortlist broke, writing, “I am not sure I can articulate how proud, elated and over the moon I am with the journey of #HOMEBOUND… all of us @dharmamovies are privileged to have this proud and important film in our filmography … thank you @neeraj.ghaywan for making so many dreams of ours come true… from Cannes to being on the Oscar shortlist this has been such an overwhelming journey!”

Martin Scorsese, the legendary film director, also served as an executive producer for the film. Homebound is inspired by journalist Basharat Peer’s article “Taking Amrit Home” published in the New York Times in the year 2020 and is based on the life of two friends, Shoaib and Chandan, who were friends since their childhood, trying to get a job in the police department to gain some dignity and stability for themselves but got caught up in the difficult realities of the socio-political situation of India.
