Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound Out Of Oscar Race, Doesn’t Make It To Top 5 International Feature Film Nominees

In recent events, everyone was excited about the Dharma-produced film Homebound’s Oscar nomination for the 98th Academy Awards, which is happening very soon. But unfortunately, the Neeraj Ghaywan film featuring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor failed to make the list of 5 films for the Best International Feature category. Till now, only three Indian films have been able to bag this nomination, which include Mother India (1957), Salaam Bombay! (1988), and Lagaan (2001). Read to know more about it here.

About Homebound

The films that did make it to the category of this year’s Academy Awards are Brazil’s The Secret Agent, France’s It Was Just an Accident,  Norway’s Sentimental Value, Spain’s Sirât, and Tunisia’s The Voice of Hind Rajab.  For the unversed, the Neeraj Ghaywan film follows childhood friends Shoaib (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan (Vishal Jethwa), whose common desire to join the police force alters their lives. Janhvi Kapoor adds emotional depth to a story about friendship, duty, and the challenges that young India faces.

Upon his film not being nominated for the Oscars, Vishal Jethwa told HT, “While we didn’t make the final nominations, being shortlisted among the final 15 films is an honour in itself. Seeing Homebound travel this far and represent India globally has been incredibly special.” He further expressed his gratitude for being a part of the film.
