Neena Gupta Says Indian Women Think S*x Is Just To Please Men, Have Babies. Where’s The Lie?

Neena Gupta, known for her fearless opinions and refreshing honesty, recently shed light on a subject that is rarely discussed openly, how many Indian women perceive s*x. In a candid conversation with Lilly Singh, the veteran actress expressed concern over the way most women in India are conditioned to view sex not as something for their own pleasure, but merely as a duty toward their partners or a means for reproduction.

Neena Gupta On Indian Women

“I feel very sad for women and s*x,” Gupta said, with sincerity in her voice. “In India, 95 to 99% of women don’t know that s*x is also for enjoyment. They think it’s only to please the man or have babies.” Neena Gupta emphasized that the women who do understand s*x as a form of pleasure perhaps those present in that very studio are in the minority. Her words struck a chord with Singh and the audience alike, especially when she refused to whisper the word “s*x,” something that remains taboo in many Indian households.

“I used to whisper it too, at home,” Neena admitted. “But not anymore. I’ve realized it’s the most overrated word. It shouldn’t be something we’re afraid of.” The conversation also turned toward body image, modesty, and how Gupta’s attitude on set has changed with experience. Lilly pointed out that while many actors request privacy to adjust their microphones, Neena confidently does it on set, even in front of the crew.

Neena Gupta responded with a laugh, recalling how she used to shy away too. “We used to run to the green room before. Now, I just turn around, fix it, and continue my conversation.”  She further praised the professionalism of technical staff on Indian sets, saying, “The best part of working in Bombay is the crew. The light boys, sound guys, they don’t ogle. They’re used to it. That’s how it should be.”
